The Itzhaki Lab, at Emory University School of Medicine, is a cardiac electrophysiology translational research laboratory that seeks to employ a postdoctoral fellow specializing in one or more of the following areas: electrophysiology research, calcium signaling, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) disease modeling, mathematical modeling of biological systems, and/or microfluidics. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary collaborative research environment focused on interrogating sex hormones' impact on the initiation and termination of cardiac arrhythmias, with the intent of contributing to the identification of antiarrhythmic molecular therapeutic targets, the derivation of new antiarrhythmic therapeutic management options, the development of drug screening platforms, and clinical risk stratification for the management of female and male pediatric and adult long QT syndrome patients, specifically, and arrhythmia-susceptible congenital disease patients, in general. For this research focus, the lab will apply advanced technologies, including high-throughput multiparametric electrophysiology and calcium imaging recording systems, and disease- and patient-specific iPSC technology. The postdoc will receive training from the Principal Investigator, Dr. Ilanit Itzhaki, to enhance professional development and research independence skills needed to advance career pursuits. The postdoc will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day management needs of research projects, which will include the design and execution of experiments, data analysis and interpretation, statistical analysis, the development of new ideas to promote the current research, and manuscript writing. In addition, the postdoc will be responsible for some lab managerial duties, including training lab members and equipment operation and maintenance.
Minimum qualification: A Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degree in an appropriate field; strong scientific writing and oral communication skills; a demonstrated background in at least one of the following areas: electrophysiology research (for example, utilizing the patch clamp technique, high throughput electrophysiology recording systems, etc.), calcium signaling (calcium imaging), iPSC-related research, and/or biomedical engineering (e.g., mathematical modeling of biological systems, microfluidics, programming skills: MATLAB, etc.); additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
