This position is located in the Surgery section at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System. The Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System is an active teaching hospital affiliated with The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. It is for the recruitment of a Full-Time, Board certified/Board eligible, Neuro Surgeon. Duties include clinic, surgical, and call responsibilities. Candidate must have familiarity with neurosurgical oncology, including spinal and skull base lesions such as metastases. The provider triages, examines, diagnoses, resuscitates, stabilizes, treats or directs a course of treatment for a wide range of patients from the healthy young to the geriatric patient, or from seriously ill to the severely traumatized. Examines patients and orders appropriate tests to evaluate patients, chief complaint and related complaints; ascertains medical needs and initiates action to provide needed services. Coordinates admission of patient to hospital with accepting staff physician. Performs authorized procedures such as Lumbar puncture, Tracheostomy (emergency), Incision and drainage of simple abscesses, Suturing of lacerations, Closed cardiac massage, Endoscopy, Craniotomies, Aneurysms, AVM's, Tumors, Trauma, Infection-Hemorrhage, Stereotaxic procedures, Biopsy, Lesions, Implants, Laminectomies, Decompression and disk, Tumors-infection, Anterior spine procedures, & Decompression and disk, and Spinal Fusion. The applicant should have deep familiarity with neurosurgical anatomy and anatomy teaching expertise to be utilized in postgraduate resident level instruction, with an emphasis on both intracranial and endoscopic skull base anatomy. The applicant should have familiarity with neurosurgical residency training, teaching hospitals, and resident supervision. The candidate will also be familiar with and involved with the training of neurosurgical residents at all levels, and participant in the conferences.
