The Palliative Medicine Program at Georgetown University Hospital is seeking a full time palliative medicine physician to join our expanding team. Candidate will enjoy working with an established and growing interdisciplinary inpatient consultation team including 4 physicians, 2 nurse practitioners, 1 social worker and abundant spiritual care and holistic support. The team has established strategic inpatient growth in ICU and oncology, and has an outpatient multidisciplinary palliative medicine clinic. Academic opportunities abound in the daily supervision of medical students and residents on elective inpatient consult rotation and in required palliative clinic exposure, as well as preclinical and clinical didactics and communication workshops. Institutional support for educational activities is available. Faculty academic appointment with Georgetown University School of Medicine is included.
Georgetown University Hospital is an academic center that is an affiliate of the Medstar Health System, and is located in the heart of Washington, DC, adjacent to the site of the historic Georgetown University undergraduate campus. The hospital will be breaking ground on a new 6-story hospital pavilion in 2017. Georgetown also encompasses the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Georgetown University School of Medicine. The Palliative Medicine Program is housed in the Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine.
Qualifications include board certified or board eligibility in palliative medicine, board certification in primary specialty, palliative medicine fellowship training preferred but not required if the ideal candidate has extensive clinical experience. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in advanced communication skills, expert symptom management and interdisciplinary teamwork, as well as an interest in education and research.
