The new Chief will lead a Clinical Division in the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and will play a key role in the growth of academic programs across all missions of MCW. The Chief must be an excellent clinician who possesses strong leadership and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed environment and large health system. The Chief will be an MD or MD/PhD with prior leadership experience in a nationally recognized cardiovascular program and an established academic career in research, education, or quality and process improvement. The Chief must be ABIM certified in Cardiovascular Medicine and be eligible for faculty appointment at MCW at the rank of Associate or full Professor.
As Service Line Physician Director (SLPD) for Heart and Vascular Diseases at Froedtert and MCW (F&MCW), the Chief works in a relationship with the Froedtert Health (FH) Service Line Vice President and CEO of Medical College Physicians (MCP) to lead targeted, strategic growth and tactical operations of the health system within the Heart and Vascular Service Line responsibilities, ensuring that the appropriate members of the leadership team share a common focus on key market and service line opportunities. The SLPD oversees and is responsible for service line strategy, performance, integration and growth; and ensures that the service line provides a highly coordinated, comprehensive continuum of clinical services deployed throughout the F&MCW health system based on a foundation of advanced technologies and treatments, innovation, education, research and evidence based practice.
In a matrix environment with the respective presidents of operating entities and physician practice plans, as well as the MCW chairs and chiefs, the SLPD is accountable for achievement of the growth and value-based strategies for the clinical service line at the system level. The SLPD will also develop effective relationships with service line related nursing leaders, as well as operational, ancillary support and physician leaders, across the health system, ensuring shared goals, accountability, quality indicators and measurement standards are met. The SLPD will promote the safety, health, quality and value of service for patients while guiding the creation and growth of the designated service line.
The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is a private, academic institution dedicated to leadership and excellence. In 2015, MCW had approximately 817 students in Medical School, nearly 400 graduate students and 160 postdoctoral fellows in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. There are more than 670 physicians in residency training and 180 physicians in fellowship training. The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) granted reaccreditation in 2007 for 10 years. MCW is the largest research institution in eastern Wisconsin with $154 million in grant awards for research, teaching, training and related purposes in FY2013-2014, of which $138 million was for researching, including funding from the National Institute of Health and other sponsors. Through its clinical operations, MCW providers, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and psychologists care for more than 500,000 patients in 2015 representing more than 2.2 million patient visits.
The Department of Medicine is comprised of 10 divisions, and is led by Chairman, Dr. Roy L. Silverstein. The Department has a significant number of clinical programs with regional affiliations and practice locations outside of the metro Milwaukee area. There are over 300 faculty. Froedtert Hospital is the primary adult hospital affiliate of MCW and is staffed by MCW physicians providing care in all medical specialties and subspecialties. A 500-bed hospital, Froedtert, has the only adult Level 1 Trauma Center in eastern Wisconsin. All physicians practicing at Froedtert are MCW faculty members and share the college academic mission. Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center is one of the busiest and most comprehensive centers operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
